The centerpiece of BYD's passenger vehicle display was the Sealion 6 DM-i. Built around the company's "electric-first" plug-in hybrid philosophy, the SUV is designed to deliver the smooth and quiet driving characteristics of a battery electric vehicle during everyday commuting while using its internal combustion engine to improve efficiency on longer journeys. The combination is intended to reduce concerns over driving range and charging availability without sacrificing the benefits of electrified mobility.
Since launching what it describes as the world's first mass-produced PHEV model in 2008, BYD has continued to invest in PHEV-dedicated powertrain development. According to the company, vehicles equipped with its DM-i technology have accumulated more than 8 million sales worldwide and logged over 30 billion kilometers of real-world driving, providing extensive validation of the system's performance. With the launch of the Sealion 6 DM-i in South Korea, BYD will offer both BEV and PHEV models in the market, giving local consumers a wider range of low-emission mobility options.
