Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 13) - According to the China Passenger Car Association, a total of 1.67 million passenger automobiles were sold in the country in October, Xinmin Evening News reported today. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 9.3 percent. At the same time, 1.74 million passenger automobiles were manufactured over the course of the month, representing year-on-year growth of 10.1 percent.
As a CPCA spokesperson explain, passenger automobile sales generally tend to raise over the course of October. This leads straight into strong sales into November. The current year-on-year sales growth rates of around ten percent is in line with general macroeconomic trends, the CPCA explains.
October sales performances of domestic own brand manufacturers and Japanese enterprises have both far exceeded expectations and marked a stark improvement from September. Own brands, in particular, saw their passenger automobile market share grow, marking the second consecutive month of positive growth.
The CPCA adds that November traditionally marks a high point of commercial vehicle sales. Although November's sales are not nearly as high as December or January, they are still typically very high.
Shanghai VW was the top selling manufacturer of passenger automobiles in October, managing to sell a total of 150,066 vehicles. It was followed by FAW-VW and Shanghai GM, whose monthly sales totaled 141,884 units and 131,991 units, respectively. Year-on-year sales growth rates for Shanghai VW, FAW-VW and Shanghai GM were 3.5 percent, 8.9 percent and 0.7 percent, respectively.
Shanghai VW has sold a total of 1.49 million automobiles from January to October, while FAW-VW has sold 1.37 million automobiles over the same ten month time period.
