Gasgoo.com (Shanghai February 17) - In the grueling decades following national market reforms began in 1978, Guangzhou been at the forefront of China's transformation into a global economic powerhouse. Recent statistics can attest to this, as the province was reported to have produced over 1.33 million sedans last year, the second largest output in the country.
In a bid to further increase Guangdong's manufacturing power, the provincial government has signed agreements with FAW-Volkswagen and Changan Peugeot to build new production sites in Foshan and Shenzhen respectively. Investment in the two sites is reported to be over 10 billion yuan ($1.52b). The government is also planning to open a new energy vehicle production center in the Pearl River Delta.
