
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 4) - According to figures released by the Natural Bureau of Statistics (NBS) yesterday, the total number of cars (including three-wheeled cars and other slow speed vehicles) on Chinese roads reached 90.86 million by the end of last year, the largest portion of which are in the capital Beijing (8 percent). The amount represents an increase of 19.3 percent from 2009.
According to the report, there were 65.39 million personal vehicles registered (an increase of 25.3 percent from 2009), while there were a total of 40.29 million public vehicles (a 28.4 percent increase.)
Beijing had a total of 48.09 million vehicles on its streets, increasing 19.7% from 2009 and a staggering 86.2% from 2005. The majority of the increase was from personal cars, the amount of which more than doubled from 2005 to its present amount of 37.44 million vehicles.
