Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 1) - China put over 6.1 billion yuan ($944m) into purchasing government vehicles in 2010, the Beijing Times reported today. This marks the first time that spending on government vehicles has been revealed to the public for 74 national level departments.

The State Council had been holding meetings throughout the year on how to decrease public spending. During one of the meetings it was agreed that spending on certain expenditures, including official vehicles, would be publicly announced.

The investment was part of the 9.47 billion yuan ($1.46b) that the National People's Congress had agreed on spending. The remainder of the funds was used to finance official international visits and salaries for government workers.
