Mr. Rao, who was 72 years of age, has been battling lung cancer for several weeks. In his work at CPCA, Mr. Rao has been credited with pioneering the field of automobile market research in China.
Mr. Rao, a graduate of the class of 1964 of the Aviation University of the Air Force, has extensive experience working as a policy researcher and marketing analyst at a variety of Chinese automobile enterprises including BAIC, Dongfeng and Shanghai VW. Mr. Rao has published dozens of reports on the Chinese automobile market during his career. His work is credited with improving government policies and enhancing the domestic automobile market.
In 1994, Mr. Rao helped found the China Car Association, the forerunner to today’s China Passenger Car Association. In his over 20 years working at the foundation, Mr. Rao has made numerous contributions to the development of the automobile industry.
Mr. Rao’s straightforward manner, rich experience and incisive commentary made him one of the country’s most foremost and famous industry experts. He once stated that automobiles completed his life, and destiny has guided him to work with automobiles.
