Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 25) - The municipal government of Guangzhou is preparing to invest about 16.59 million yuan ($2.55m) to install GPS systems in government vehicles, Southern Metropolis News reported today. The systems will help monitor the actions of about 10,000 vehicles.

The vehicles will purportedly be equipped with the entirely Chinese-made Compass Navigation Satellite System. The average price for installation per vehicle will be a little bit more than the standard 3,000 yuan ($461.74) fee the system normally sells at.

The system will help monitor the vehicle's location, manage communication and identification procedures and store tracking records. All information will be relayed to a control center, where all data logs will be stored accordingly. Some have compared the system to using a computer at an office.
