Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 5) - Shanghai Volkswagen will be releasing the successor to its Santana sedan next year, autohome.com.cn reported today. The new car, temporarily known as the Santana NF, is tipped to compete directly with FAW-VW's Jetta.

The Santana NF, code-named VW253S, will be built on a new platform and be outfitted with a new engine. Production is slated to begin next September, with 2.4 million units anticipated to be produced within the next eight years. Research has already been done on the NF for quite some time now, leading many to believe that VW may have another winner to continue the success of the original Santana (pictured) in China.
