Shanghai, October 29 (Gasgoo.com) Shougang Group (also known as Capital Steel Group) has recently signed annual agreements of auto sheet supply with SAIC Motor, Beijing Auto, Geely Auto and Great Wall Motor, showing that the No. 5 steelmaker in China has the ability of bulk supply of quality auto sheet, SteelGuru reported today.
In May 2008, Shougang's state-of-the-art CR (cold-rolled) steel sheet project with an annual capacity of 1.7 million tons was put into operation. Another auto sheet production line for the first phase of the Shougang Jingtang steel plant started commissioning on May 21, 2009.
"Shougang strives to reach auto sheet production of 500,000 tons by 2010 when it will realize bulk supply," Mr. Wang Qinghai, general manager of the steel group. Since the beginning of this year, the steelmaker has boosted its development of steel products used for auto-making.
Beiqi Foton Motor (a subsidiary of Beijing Auto) and Geely Auto have cooperated with Shougang Group, who has deals of supplying high-quality auto sheet for Foton's commercial vehicles and Geely's passenger vehicles.
Over 20 leading Chinese automakers like FAW Group, SAIC Motor, Dongfeng Motor Corp, Beijing Auto and Chery Auto attended the auto sheet introduction meeting held by Shougang last week.
