Under the proposed framework, the two companies intend to establish a joint venture in Europe focused on Dongfeng-developed new-energy vehicles (NEVs). During the initial phase of operations, the venture would oversee sales, distribution, manufacturing, sourcing, and engineering activities for Dongfeng NEV models across selected European markets.
The companies are also exploring the possibility of localized production of Dongfeng's NEVs at Stellantis' Rennes plant in France. The discussions are intended to address European regulatory requirements and align with the region's growing emphasis on locally manufactured vehicles.
Earlier this month, both Stellantis and Dongfeng Motor announced plans to reinforce support for their long-running Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile ("DPCA"). Beginning in 2027, the Wuhan facility operated by the venture is expected to manufacture new-energy vehicles under the Peugeot and Jeep brands for global export markets.
Since its establishment, DPCA has produced more than 6.5 million Peugeot- and Citroën-branded vehicles in China for both domestic and overseas markets.
