Situated in the Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park within the Wuhan Economic Development Zone, this facility marks Aptiv Electrical Distribution Systems' first wire harness manufacturing base outside its Shanghai headquarters. Built by the Wuhan Economic Development Investment Group, the plant spans 36,600 square meters and will produce high-voltage wire harnesses for EV power batteries and e-drive systems, along with critical components like high-voltage charging plugs and cables.
Qi Song, vice president of Aptiv's Electrical Distribution Systems division and general manager for China, noted that the new facility will not only support local automakers in Wuhan but also serve the broader central region. By creating synergies with Aptiv's other major bases in China, the plant aims to deliver more efficient service to clients in the heart of the country.
Established in 1995 and headquartered in Jiading, Shanghai, Aptiv Electrical Systems Co., Ltd. is a leading supplier of automotive wire harness technology and products. The company operates branches across China, including Baicheng, Changchun, Yantai, Tianjin, Wuhan, Jingzhou, Wuhu, Chengdu, Chongqing, Jiangmen, and Jiaxing. Its product portfolio covers main wire harness assemblies, high-power harnesses, high-voltage harnesses, battery pack wiring, charging and discharging guns, data connections, and automotive wires.
Aptiv has deep roots in Wuhan. The company established its first electrical system production base in the zone in 2007, supplying complete vehicle wire harnesses to major automakers like Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Passenger Car, SAIC-GM, and Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën. In 2022, it expanded its footprint with the Connector Systems Wuhan Engineering Center, offering end-to-end innovation services from concept design to product verification. A year later, Aptiv built a factory in Junshan New City dedicated to high-voltage connector products for new energy vehicles; the first phase of that facility is already operational.
This latest expansion underscores the deepening partnership between Aptiv and Wuhan, while also signaling the company's unwavering confidence in the Chinese automotive market—and specifically, the industrial potential of the central region.
