Auto China 2026: GWM Chairman's Livestream on Long-termism in Car Manufacturing

Edited by Yara From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- The 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition opened on April 24, with Great Wall Motor bringing nearly 60 models across six brands. During the event, Chairman Wei Jianjun hosted a livestream centered on "The Covenant." This marks his third public address on this spirit—following themes on the Pingyao merchant path and V9X—designed to counter the industry's excessive rivalry and trust anxiety through a long-term philosophy of practical implementation.

The livestream detailed this spirit across six dimensions, spanning technology, products, and global strategy. On the technical front, Great Wall Motor introduced its Guiyuan platform, compatible with five powertrain types. The move embodies a philosophy of "one car, multiple powertrains; one car, multiple categories," effectively rejecting technical gimmicks. To underscore reliability, an owner took the stage to share his experience: he purchased five Great Wall Motor vehicles over the past decade and drove 300,000 km with zero failures.

On globalization, the company emphasized an "ecosystem export" strategy—localization. In Brazil, it earned recognition through 12 user commitments and the "Great Wall Speed" of completing repairs within one week. In Australia, the automaker has secured full-range ANCAP five-star safety ratings over 18 years, all while refining local adaptation.

Culturally, Great Wall Motor is focusing on off-road and motorsport heritage. The Tank 300 has led off-road SUV sales for five consecutive years, while multiple models have claimed championships in events like the Dunhuang and Taklamakan rallies. At the same time, the company is reducing the barrier to entry for off-roading through owner communities and technology trickle-down. It has even built its own schools to pass on values of "bold thinking, craftsmanship, and responsibility," ensuring the spirit of the covenant endures.

During the broadcast, Wei Jianjun stressed that the auto industry is a matter of life safety, requiring a century-long perspective and the courage to do what is difficult but right. By shifting the focus of auto show rivalry from products and technology to values and trust, this livestream offers a benchmark for the industry's high-quality development.
