Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 28) - On the heels of Beijing's first license plate lottery, a video stating that the winners' personal information was unsecured surfaced on the Internet. In response, the city's Municipal Commission of Transport made a response denying the rumors. The commission denied rumors that its lottery website (www.bjhjyd.gov.cn) was unsafe, saying that it had an extremely secure information management system, and inviting concerned citizens to check the website for themselves.

Less then 24 hours after the license plate lottery's results were announced, a video called "Beijing first license plate lottery winners' personal information leaked" began circulating on the Internet, causing a major stir among netizens. According to the video, after entering logon information on the lottery website, if a user downloaded his or her confirmation letter as a PDF file within the browser, said letter would display another user's information. Additionally, the web address' final letters would match the lottery winner's application number. The video then showed that by randomly entering different numbers in the personal information box, a user could view any lottery applicant's personal information, including cell phone number, driver license number, ID card number and home address.

In its response, the Municipal Commission of Transport's Publicity Department denied rumors that the website was unsafe, adding that it had not seen the video in question. "Currently... the information system is extremely secure, and will not [result in] disclosure of personal information."
