Shanghai, April 15 (Gasgoo.com) China's passenger car sales in the first quarter rose 76% from a year earlier to 3,522,900 units, and the BYD F3 was the top-selling sedan model during the period at 92,900 units, media reported.
According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the top 10 best-selling sedan models in the January to March period are as follows:
1. BYD F3 – 92,900 units
2. Hyundai Yue Dong – 58,600
3. VW Lavida Langyi – 58,300, the
4. VW Jetta - 54,700
5. Buick Excelle - 54,200
6. VW Santana - 52,200
7. FAW Xiali - 51,700
8. Honda Accord - 47,100
9. Chevrolet Cruze - 46,800
10. Hyundai Elantra - 46,100.
Boosted by its hot-selling F3 model, BYD sold 68,129 cars in March, a monthly record high, becoming China's No. 3 carmaker in the month's sales and bringing its first-quarter sales to 163,500, up 110% from a year earlier.
BYD, backed by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, plans to export up to 10% of the 800,000 vehicles it expects to sell this year, a sharp increase from last year when it exported about 2.2% of its 450,000 vehicles sold.
