Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) China's passenger car sales in the first five months of the year rose 55% from a year earlier to 5.68 million units, and the BYD F3 was the top-selling sedan model during the period with 138,000 units sold, media reported.
According to the latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the top 10 best-selling sedan models by their sales in the January to May period are as follows:
1. BYD F3 - 138,000 units
2. Hyundai Yue Dong - 99,500
3. VW Lavida Langyi - 97,600
4. VW Jetta - 92,200
5. Buick Excelle - 90,900
6. FAW Xiali - 81,300
7. Chevrolet Cruze - 76,800
8. VW Santana - 71,900
9. Chery QQ - 71,300
10. Hyundai Elantra - 70,900
In the first five months, sales of the top 10 sedan models reached 890,400 units, accounting for 23% of China's total sedan sales during the period. The ten models' sales in May accounted for 24% of the total, reaching 171,600 units.
BYD, a Chinese automaker backed by U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett, aims to export 10% of the 800,000 vehicles it expects to sell this year, a sharp increase from last year when it exported about 2.2% of its 450,000 vehicles sold.
