Since establishing operations in the zone in 2021, the CALB Wuhan base has expanded at an accelerated pace, moving swiftly from construction to large-scale production. The project has helped close a critical gap in Wuhan's new energy vehicle battery supply chain, while also catalyzing tighter integration and collaboration among upstream and downstream local suppliers.

The first three development phases of the Wuhan base are now fully operational, delivering a combined annual capacity of 40 GWh for power and energy storage batteries. These products are already being supplied at scale to mainstream new energy vehicle programs, including models from Dongfeng Passenger Vehicle Company, supporting both strong output and sales momentum. In parallel, construction of the fourth phase is advancing rapidly, setting the stage for further capacity expansion and a more complete industrial footprint.

Reports indicate that the fourth phase centers on the intelligent manufacturing of power battery pack systems. The plan includes six new high-standard automated production lines, with a designed annual capacity of around 400,000 battery packs. Once operational, the project is expected to significantly strengthen local pack supply capabilities. Launched in July 2025, the phase has progressed efficiently and has now entered a critical stage of equipment installation and commissioning, with mass production scheduled to begin in 2026.

Often described as the "heart" of a new energy vehicle, the battery pack plays a decisive role in energy storage, power delivery, and safety management, making its quality and availability central to overall vehicle competitiveness. CALB has said that once the fourth phase comes online, a growing number of NEVs built in Wuhan will be equipped with locally manufactured advanced battery packs, further reinforcing the region's self-sufficient and resilient supply chain.
