China to add 12 cities to green vehicle subsidy pilot program

Shanghai September 17 (Gasgoo.com) The Chinese government will grant subsidies to individual buyers of new energy vehicles in 12 more pilot cities, Zhang Laiwu, vice president of Ministry of Science and Technology (MST), said at a press conference organized by the State Council Information Office., People's Daily reported Friday.

The government subsidies, which are currently being implemented in 13 cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Wuhan, etc., will initially be provided for vehicle purchases in the public sector and gradually be extended to the private sector, Zhang added.

At present, China has signed 104 science and technology cooperative agreements with 97 countries, and put at top priority the cooperation in fields of climate change, energy and environmental protection, etc..

Aside from that, China has set up a China-U.S. Clean Energy Research Center with the United States, and signed a phase-II cooperative agreement on near-zero emissions power generation with the EU. The China-Germany Electric Vehicle Cooperative Project has also been launched.

In the past ten years, the Chinese Government has allocated more than 10 billion yuan ($1.47 billion) to research and development of energy conservation and emissions reduction technologies, of which 2 billion yuan was invested in R&D of the electric vehicles, involving over 500 research subjects.

China has already formulated 42 standards related to fuel-efficient and new energy vehicles and applied more than 1,600 invention patents. The country now has 98 charging stations, 325 charging piles for electric vehicles, as well as two discharging stations for large-size buses.
