Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 27) - Head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Assistant Director of the CPPCC Economic Committee Li Yizhong has said that development of new energy cars has been far too conservative, auto.sohu.com reported today.
"I personally believe that the energy-saving and new energy automobile market are [developing] far too conservatively," Mr. Li said. He made the comment at this year's annual summit on developing the automotive industry held in Beijing this past weekend.
According to current development goals, 250,000 pure electric vehicles are planned to be built in the country by 2015, which would still not constitute a signifigant part of all automobiles on the road.
Mr. Li did put some of the blame on the lack of technology, admitting that there was still a lot of work to be done to let the Chinese industry catch up with those of developed countries.
