Chinese new energy vehicle production goal may be revised

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 5) - Official predictions about the state of China's new energy vehicle market may have been overly optimistic, with Economic Observer News quoting unnamed sources as saying that the government is seriously considering playing down national 2011-2015 production goals from 500,000 to 250,000 vehicles.

"I feel that the new energy vehicles industry plans are far too conservative," Li Yizhong, head of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and assistant director of the CPPCC Economic Committee previously stated at this year's annual summit on new energy vehicles. However, Mr. Li added that Chinese technology was lacking and the industry foundation was still not stable.

If the new downplayed figure is met, new energy vehicles will account for only a single percent of the country's total production in 2015.
