Anatolia News Agency (Bursa) - The first vehicle from Chinese auto manufacturer Chery's new production facility in Turkey is expected to roll off the line within the next six months.
The plant in construction in Turkey's northwest will have the capacity to produce 100,000 vehicles per year, according to officials.
The vehicles will be manufactured at a factory based in Turkey's northwestern Sakarya province with a $500 million investment by the Chinese company's Turkish partner, the Mermerler Group.
The plant will not only be an installation facility, but will also have the capacity to manufacture four or five different types of vehicles simultaneously and produce diesel engines, Aydın Akyol, Mermerler Automotive's deputy managing director, told the Anatolia news agency Wednesday.
The official said nearly 60-65 percent of the factory's production would be exported, making Turkey Chery's door to Europe with the investment.
Chery Automobile was founded as a state-owned enterprise in 1997 and is based in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China.
Chery became the seventh most-productive Chinese vehicle manufacturer in 2010, selling nearly 700,000 units.
