DeepRoute CEO Zhou Guang: Autonomous Driving Enters the Era of Large Models, Small Models Have Hit the Capability Ceiling

Edited by Greg From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- The autonomous driving sector is undergoing a fundamental paradigm shift, according to DeepRoute CEO Zhou Guang. Speaking at the Future Automotive Pioneers Conference on May 29, Zhou argued that the five-year era of small models is hitting its limits. A "seesaw effect" creates system instability, he warned, making it difficult to secure long-term trust from users.

The real breakthrough, Zhou believes, lies in cognitive-based physical AI large models. Unlike small models that rely on conditioned reflexes, these large models possess global cognition and advanced reasoning capabilities.

DeepRoute has taken the lead by deploying a self-developed 40B parameter foundation model. By unifying the capabilities of Driver, Analyst, and Critic, the company has boosted data processing efficiency tenfold.

Riding the commercialization wave of end-to-end technology, DeepRoute’s market share is set to climb 2.1 times in 2025. Its third-party urban NOA share reached 24%, placing it second in the industry.

Zhou revealed that the goal for this foundation model-based system is to boost urban MPCI to over 1,000 km, shifting assisted driving from "usable" to "regularly used." As for Tesla’s FSD entering China, Zhou sees it as a net positive for DeepRoute, which is committed to the large model route, adding that it will help redefine the safe autonomous driving experience.
