Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 10) - There have recently been reports circulating in the Chinese media that Jaguar Land Rover China will begin domestically manufacturing the Land Rover Discovery Sport this year. The Discovery Sport was shown off at last November’s Auto Guangzhou 2014 expo.
Jaguar Land Rover’s second domestically produced vehicle is scheduled to be released this year, and is confirmed to be a Land Rover SUV. Jaguar Land Rover’s Chinese-made product line up is forecast to include both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands by 2016.
Even without official confirmation, a report from the China Business Journal believes that the Land Rover Discovery Sport (pictured) is the most likely candidate for domestic production. The paper points out that Jaguar Land Rover has organized a test-drive event for the media in order to demonstrate the vehicle’s versatility both on-road and off-road. Land Rover’s Discovery line of vehicles stands its Range Rover and Defender families.
It is worth pointing out that although there has been no official confirmation from Jaguar Land Rover China, the manufacturer has not officially denied recent speculation.
Jaguar Land Rover sold a total of 122,000 vehicles in China in 2014, up 28.1 percent from the previous year. The Land Rover brand has accounted for over 100,000 of those sales.
