Earthquake in Japan not to affect Honda car supplies to Ukraine, says Honda-Ukraine

Interfax - The huge earthquake in Japan that caused the suspension of production at some automobile plants and spare parts suppliers will not affect supplies of Honda cars to Ukraine, the press service of Honda-Ukraine reported on Tuesday.

"One of the reasons is that most of the products imported to Ukraine are made at Honda's foreign plants in Europe, the United States and Asia. The Honda Civic, Honda CR-V cars and the major types of Honda Jazz are made for Ukraine at European plants in Britain and Turkey, that for Honda Pilot – in the United States, and the only cars imported to Ukraine [from Japan] are the Honda Accord (the Sayama plant), the Honda CR-Z (the Suzuka factory) and around one third of the Honda Jazz cars (the Suzuka factory)," reads the company's report.

As of March 22, supplies of cars, motorcycles and power equipment from Japanese plants to Ukraine had been confirmed for the next two months, the company informs.

The company said that earlier Honda announced the temporary suspension of its Japanese production facilities until March 20.

"Today Honda made a decision to prolong the halt in production activities at the end product facilities at the following plants until March 27, 2011: for cars – Sayama Plant's Saitama Factory (Sayama, Saitama) and Suzuka factory (Suzuka, Mie) and for motorcycles – Kumamoto factory (Ozu-Machi, Kikuchi-gun, Kumamoto)," reads the report.

Starting from March 28, Honda is to make a decision on its production activities, taking into account the situation with resumption of supplies of spare parts and the condition of the Japanese economy as a whole.

Honda-Ukraine will also report on the process of restoration of production facilities located in Japan and give forecasts for supplies of their products to Ukraine.
