Italian tax authorities will shortly pay auto group Fiat over 400 million euros ($599 million) in tax credits due from car-buying incentives schemes, a source at the tax office said on Monday.

"It's all ready. All we need is that Fiat presents (its claim). To date, it has still not arrived," the source said.

Fiat is preparing its request, a Fiat spokesman said.

On Friday, Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchione said the group had tax credits relating to car incentive schemes of over 400 million euros at the end of September, adding the amount would be over 500 million at the end of the year.
