Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 27) - "Clearly, Fiat's passenger vehicle business in China has not been a success, [due to] our failure to import our models on time," Lorenzo Sistino, head of Fiat's international operations, was quoted as saying by the Beijing Youth Daily today. Fiat finally looks set to correct that error now.
Despite its position as a relative newcomer to this side of the globe, Fiat, like many others, has been taken with the Chinese market, with Mr. Sistino having said, "even though —growth [in the automobile industry] has slowed down to 10 percent, China still has a great deal of potential when compared with traditional markets." Mr. Sistino believes that if Fiat can take hold of a great opportunity if it is able to satisfy the rigorous demands of consumers in this part of the globe.
In order to begin addressing those requests, Fiat will be outfitting the new 500 (pictured) with a 1.4 L Multiair engine and bringing it over to China. The new Multiair engine, according to CEO of Guangqi Fiat Jiang Ping, is able to match traditional 2.0 L engines when it comes to power and torque, while cutting down greatly on emissions.
Also on the agenda is Fiat's new C-Medium, which will be slated for domestic production next year. Reportedly Guangqi Fiat will build 100 dealers to help push sales for the new car.
