WeRide, Uber to launch Spain's first commercial robotaxi service
On June 2, WeRide and Uber announced plans to launch Spain's first commercial Robotaxi pilot service in Madrid. The project marks WeRide's first entry into the European market with Uber and makes Madrid the 12th city globally to host WeRide's Robotaxi operations.
The commercial robotaxi service is expected to officially launch later this year, allowing local users to hail a WeRide robotaxi with a single tap via the Uber app.
During the initial operation phase, these autonomous vehicles will be equipped with professionally trained safety operators to ensure smooth rides, according to a statement.
This milestone builds on WeRide and Uber's proven track record in the Middle East, where fully driverless Robotaxi commercial services are already in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with Riyadh expected to follow.
