Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 3) - Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hong Lei announced that Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has invited German Chancellor Angela Merkel to visit China next week for an official visit, Economic Observer News reported today. The purpose of the visit is primarily to discuss economic issues, which may include discussions on the fields of new energy and electric vehicles. This will be Mrs. Merkel's seventh time visiting China on an official visit.

There is speculation that electric vehicle cooperation may be a topic of discussion. Many German manufacturers, including Volkswagen AG, will be sending representatives with Mrs. Merkel.

30 years after opening its economy up, Germany has become one of the largest investors in the Chinese economy. German mechanical enterprises, which includes automobile manufacturers, have constantly been increasing their investments in the country. VW, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have achieved a great deal of success in the Chinese market, with VW establishing the country's first joint venture enterprises. The Chinese new energy vehicle market is currently in a state of rapid growth, spurred on by mounting environmental pressure and stimulatory government policies, which is also attracting the attention of German enterprises.
