Gotion High-Tech: Design of 2GWh All-Solid-State Battery Production Line Completed

Edited by Yara From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- Gotion High-Tech is making progress in the solid-state battery sector.

On March 2, the company told investors on an interactive platform that design work for a 2GWh all-solid-state battery production line is essentially complete. However, when asked about the timeline for bidding on GWh-scale equipment and materials, Gotion clarified that formal tenders have not yet been issued.

Notably, back in December, Gotion revealed a series of updates. The company said its "G-standard" quasi-solid-state battery had completed testing and was undergoing validation tailored to specific client requirements. Testing on compatible models from multiple automakers is proceeding steadily, with manufacturers praising battery performance and data. For details on vehicle integration, the company referred to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's "Recommended Model Directory for New Energy Vehicles Application Promotion" and automakers' own announcements.

At the time, Gotion disclosed that its "Jinshi" all-solid-state battery is scheduled to launch a pilot line and undergo internal vehicle testing in the first half of 2025. The company was already moving forward with the design for the 2GWh mass production line.

Solid-state batteries are widely viewed as a "revolutionary" leap for next-generation battery technology. Offering advantages like high energy density, enhanced safety, and long cycle life, they have become a priority for major economies including China, the United States, the European Union, Japan, and South Korea.

Industry consensus holds that semi-solid batteries will lead commercial deployment over the next few years, while all-solid-state batteries are expected to hit a critical pilot phase between 2026 and 2027.

Just prior to this, Gotion and BASF formally signed a strategic memorandum of understanding in Hefei. The two companies will join forces to develop next-generation solid-state battery technology, marking a shift in Gotion's strategy toward greater scale and systematic development.

Under the agreement, the partnership will center on collaborative innovation, focusing on the joint R&D of high-performance materials for next-generation solid-state batteries. The scope covers a range of core materials.
