Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 21) - After a period of silence, Guangqi Honda has announced bold plans for the upcoming Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition. The joint venture plans to showcase the 2013 Accord and hybrid Fit at the event, as well as a new entry to its Everus own brand and a new midsize vehicle, xkb.com.cn reported today.
According to Guangqi Honda Deputy General Manager Yao Yiming, the 2013 Accord will help build on successes established by the new Crosstour, whose sales have been managing to exceed the joint venture's expectations ever since its market debut last July.
Mr. Yao also specifically mentioned the hybrid Fit, which will first be sold by the JV as an imported model. "Our vision is set to the future, [and] in the future Guangqi Honda will definitely manufacture new energy models," Mr. Yao said. He added that the JV has already made preparations for new national policies modifying fuel consumption standards to be released in 2020.
Furthermore, the joint venture plans to release three new models next year, including an update to the Everus own brand and ninth generation Accord. Mr. Yao is reportedly looking very forward to 2013, mentioning it is only the first in several years which will see the JV releasing three brand new models. According to Mr. Yao, Guangqi Honda will also be releasing a new SUV model within the next two years.
Mr. Yao's vision for the Everus own brand is one of steady development. "Guangqi Honda is not only looking for quick successes," he said, saying that the JV wanted to build a solid foundation for its own brand. "One day, our Everus brand will be entirely Chinese designed and manufactured, without relying on other parties," he boasted.
