American Honda Motor Co. said today that it will offer Apple's Siri Eyes Free in select vehicles, including the 2013-14 Honda Accord and 2013 Acura RDX and ILX.
The hands-free software will allow customers with compatible iPhones to direct Siri to perform certain tasks on their phone while they keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Siri Eyes Free uses the vehicle's onboard speakers and microphones to read and send e-mails and text messages. It can check the weather and set up calendar entries while providing voice navigation, sports scores, and stock quotes. The program also seeks to limit distractions by keeping the phone's screen from lighting up.
"Honda recognizes the power of Siri Eyes Free to meet connectivity and convenience needs of its customers in a responsible manner," Art St. Cyr, American Honda vice president of product planning and logistics, said in a statement. "With technology becoming further integrated into people's lives, we are happy to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer's ever-changing needs."
Additional features of Siri Eyes Free on Honda vehicles will be released on Dec. 3.
