The Economic Times (New Delhi) - Honda Siel Cars India has resumed supply of over 50 components, including engine parts, of small car Brio to Honda's Thailand operations that was suspended after devastating flood hit in 2011.
Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co (HATC) has also restarted production from today after it was discontinued in October last year due to the worst flood in 50 years in Thailand.
"We have resumed supply of all Brio parts to Thailand. This was stopped from October last year after the flood affected productions completely there," a Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) spokesperson told reporters.
HSCI supplies a total of 54 parts for the Brio, including critical engine components and some other parts related to body like crankshafts, she added.
"We supply parts for about 2,100-2,500 cars every month. These parts are mostly produced at our Tapukara plant. Besides some parts are sourced from our local vendors and then we ship them to Thailand," the spokesperson said.
During the period of non-production of HATC, its parent Honda has been supplying vehicles alternatively from Japan to some countries in the Asia Oceania Region, including Thailand.
"However, as of today, all production plants have resumed production and are expected to normalise in April," Honda said in a statement.
Last year HSCI's production was badly hit by components supply constraints due to tsunami in Japan, followed by the Thailand flood. It has resumed normal production at Greater Noida facility since February this year.
The flood in Thailand had particularly affected part supplies to HSCI for Brio, Jazz and City as Honda's plants in the country as well as its suppliers, based in northern and central parts, were severely affected.
