Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 25) - According to its recently released development plan, Honda's annual production capacity in China is expected to exceed one million units by 2014, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today.

Honda is planning to invest a total of 46 billion yen ($564.43m) to build new automobile and engine production sites in China. The automobile factory, which will begin operation in 2014, will be Guangqi Honda's third, helping raise the joint venture's overall production capacity by 25 percent. Construction work on the site will begin by the end of this year. It will boast a preliminary annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles, which will later increase to 240,000 vehicles.

Meanwhile, production at fellow JV Dongfeng Honda's second factory will begin this July. The site's production capacity this year will total 100,000 vehicles, and will increase to 120,000 vehicles two years from now. At that time, Dongfeng Honda's total production capacity will total 360,000 vehicles. In combination with Guangqi Honda's expected production capacity of 600,000 vehicles and the 50,000 production capacity of Honda China's independent factory in Guangzhou, Guangdong, the manufacturer should be on target to exceed its overall production capacity target.
