Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 24) - Infiniti will begin manufacturing its Q50L and QX50L long wheel-base cars in China next year, autohome.com.cn reported today, citing a statement made by the manufacturer at the floor of the ongoing Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition. The manufacturer also revealed that it will bring over the 3.7 L-powered Q50 to the country next spring, prior to beginning domestic production.
Infiniti President Johan de Nysschen has stated his intent to see Infiniti rank among the world's leading luxury car manufacturers. As its second largest market, China will play an important role in helping Infiniti reach its goal. Mr. de Nysschen also confirmed that the manufacturer will begin producing the Q50L and QX50L cars in the country next year. Infiniti previously hinted that it will manufacture two of its models at a signing ceremony for the establishment of a local production base.
In other news, Infiniti's Q50 (pictured) has made its debut on the floor of Auto Shanghai this week. The Q50 is an update to Infiniti's G series. The Q50's exterior design is considerably different than the G series, with the car sporting a brand new fascia with sharply angular headlights. The Q50's interior is full of real leather, wood and high-quality metal. The Q50 sports a 2.85 m long wheelbase and measures 4.68 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.59 m tall. Those dimensions will be further expanded in the soon to be made in China Q50L.
Lv Zhengyu, head of Infiniti China's main operations, predicts growth in the luxury market to be around 15 percent to 16 percent this year. Although the figure is much lower than the plus 60 percent growth seen in past years, it is still double the average growth rates for the overall market.
