Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 18) - An official unveiling ceremony for the new joint venture between Anhui automobile enterprise Jianghuai and US truck manufacturer Navistar will be held in Beijing on August 23, auto.sina.com.cn reported today. The announcement was made in a special media event held by the joint venture earlier this week. The JV has already gained official approval from the National Development and Reform Commission last month.

JAC and Navistar are investing a total of 1.8 billion yuan ($284.12m) to establish a new engine production site for the joint venture. The site, which is expected to be completed before the end of this year, will focus on producing the JAC HFC4DA1 series of diesel engines and several different Navistar MaxxForce diesel motors. It is expected to have a total annual production capacity of 150,000 engines. Production is anticipated to begin as early as next October.

The joint venture, which was agreed upon in September 2010, will see the two companies cooperate in conducting research and development, producing and selling truck engines. Wei Zhongliang, head of JAC's Commercial Vehicle Research Institute, is confident that the combination of JAC's chassis and body technology and Navistar's state-of-the-art engines will allow the JV to succeed.
