Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 10) - Chinese production of Jeep vehicles may become a reality soon, with the brand's CEO Mike Manley stating that it may only take two years, the Nanfang Metropolis Daily reported today. According to Mr. Manley, if Jeep can find a suitable partner in the country, it will only take 18 to 24 months for the brand to start manufacturing in China.
Mr. Manley has also revealed that he has met with Fiat's partner GAC Group in September. Both sides hope to agree on terms by which Jeep can be manufactured in China within the year. With Fiat and Chrysler having GAC's help in China, the possibility of Jeep coming to China is very real. If domestic production becomes a reality for Jeep, the brand will no doubt see its sales in the country increase.
Jeep is currently only available via import in the country, with the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Patriot and Compass currently sold. According to Mr. Manley, China would be a natural choice for Jeep's new production site.
Mr. Manley also added that Jeep is developing a new model smaller than the Patriot and Compass. The model is built on a Fiat model and will produced in 2013.
