He wrote on social media: "Today, drawing on past experience and a firm view of the future, I'm officially joining Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance— LUXEED. Together with the team, I will build a truly user-centric global benchmark smart brand and create a distinctive 'AI-era user-friendly system' that runs through product, service and experience."

He added that his years at BYD gave him a deep understanding of the core principles of upholding user value, driving technological innovation and advancing the industry. He thanked BYD for its guidance, paid tribute to Chery and other Chinese automakers for their technical rigor and breakthrough innovations, and saluted Huawei for its outstanding contribution in pushing the auto industry's intelligent transformation with cutting-edge technology.

The move had been telegraphed. On Jan. 9, Yu Chengdong said on Weibo that Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance's first flagship MPV — the LUXEED V9 — will debut in the spring. Zhao reposted the announcement to build momentum, saying "the industry always needs products that raise the ceiling of imagination." When asked in the comments how he rates the V9, he replied: "Conservatively, it'll have no rival for three years."

Public records show Zhao joined BYD in 2009 after graduating from university, starting as a sales manager and rising to marketing director for the Beijing–Tianjin region. In 2017, at 31, he became the youngest president of BYD's sales company. In 2021, he was appointed general manager of Denza Sales Company, leading Denza until July 2025.

On July 3, 2025, BYD confirmed it had launched an executive rotation program. Zhao moved from general manager of the Denza Sales Division to general manager of the Denza–Fang Cheng Bao Direct Sales Division; Li Hui shifted from heading that unit to lead the Denza Sales Division. He announced his resignation on Oct. 24 that year.
