Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 24) - VW China President and CEO Jochem Heizmann officially announced that Andreas Hafemann has accepted the role of new Skoda China president at the Volkswagen Group China Media Night event held at the still ongoing Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, auto.qq.com reported today. Mr. Hafemann will officially assume the post on New Year's Day 2013. Furthermore, he will continue to work at VW China as executive vice president.

Mr. Hafemann (pictured) has previously worked at Skoda China as Chief Information Officer in charge of overlooking the manufacturer's internal information technology needs. He has also worked in a variety of positions at VW AG in the past. Skoda CEO Winfried Vahland has previously praised Mr. Hafemann's talent.

Last month Skoda China President Gerrit A. Marx announced his resignation after just a year at the manufacturer, inciting a great deal of debate on who would be his successor.

The Chinese market currently accounts for a quarter of Skoda's global sales. The manufacturer possesses nearly 400 dealerships in the country, with plans to expand that number to 550 before long. Skoda's Chinese sales have grown from just 27,000 vehicles in 2007 to 220,000 last year. The manufacturer has sold 795,000 vehicles in the country so far this year.
