Nissan Motor Co., Japan's third- largest carmaker, and German luxury-car manufacturer Daimler AG are in final talks to buy stakes of less than 5 percent in each other, Nikkei English News reported.
France's Renault SA, which has a 44 percent stake in Yokohama-based Nissan, is also in negotiations with Daimler, Nikkei said, without saying where it got the information.
Toshitake Inoshita, a spokesman for Nissan, declined to comment on the report, calling it “speculation.” Trevor Hale, a Beijing-based spokesman for Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler, didn't immediately respond to a call to his mobile phone or an e-mail message.
