Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 26) - The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has held a summit in Beijing on popularizing new energy vehicles, Shanghai Securities News reported today. According to the MIIT, the 25 Chinese cities currently serving as test centers for electric vehicles have a total of 10,000 units on their roads.

The government has expanded the number of cities testing electric vehicles from 10 to 25 last July. The move signifies the government's intent to aid the development of the domestic EV industry. According to the MIIT, the program has had significant success. Of the over 10,000 electric vehicles on the roads snow, over 1,000 are privately owned. Meanwhile, there are nearly 100 charging stations and over 4,500 charging posts in the areas.

The Beijing summit concluded that there would be a great deal of difficulty in promoting development of the industry which would require extensive cooperation between the government and manufacturers.
