Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 25) - Reports that domestic manufacture of Porsches will begin at Shanghai VW's production site in Ningbo, Zhejiang have begun appearing in the media. According to a report appearing in the Beijing Times today, officials from Porsche made the following response when asked about the issue during a recent interview: "These reports are false. Porsche currently has no domestic production plans."

According to the media reports mentioned above, Shanghai VW Ningbo's factory is currently undergoing second-phase expansion in order to allow it to manufacture the full lineup of Porsche models by 2016. However, according to Porsche officials, the manufacturer has had no such plans and Porsches will remain exclusively import vehicles.

Porsche's recent performance in China has been very strong. Sales statistics show that a total of 4,115 Porsches were sold in the country last month alone, up 26.6 percent from August 2013's figure. A total of 28,248 Porsches have been sold in China over the first eight months of the year, representing year-on-year growth of 14.7 percent.
