Shanghai, April 21 (Gasgoo.com) France's automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen will display its China-designed Metropolis hybrid concept at the upcoming 2010 Shanghai World Expo to showcase its "creative technology" for a balance of eco-friendliness and luxury, Inside Line reported.
The Citroen Metropolis concept car, as the work of the PSA design center in Shanghai, made its world premiere in the Chinese metropolis on Sunday, ahead of its display in the French Pavilion at the World's Fair which will start on May 1 and go through October 31.
The hybrid car is powered by an electric/gasoline engine mix. The 2.0-liter, 272-horsepower V6 gasoline engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch electronic transmission. The electric motor makes a maximum of 95hp and can operate the Metropolis on its own at low speeds in town.
The Metropolis was created by Citroen's international design team, which has been based in Shanghai since 2008. PSA says the design of the concept is intended to highlight "the dynamism and ambition of China in the 21st century."
China is the world's largest auto market and PSA's second largest outside Europe. PSA, making Peugeot and Citroen cars in its China venture with Dongfeng Motor, aims to more than double its Chinese market share to 8% by 2020.
