Reuters (Moscow) - Russian car maker GAZ (GAZA.RTS) made a profit during the first nine months of 2010 of 1.7 billion roubles ($58 million), ahead of its own forecasts, two sources close to the company told Reuters.

The company, which agreed a life-saving debt restructuring almost a year ago in the wake of the financial crisis, generated sales of 64 billion roubles in the same period.

GAZ is in talks with Germany's Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) about a potential partnership, while General Motors (G.N) said earlier this month it would assemble Chevrolet cars at GAZ's plant in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod.
