Schaeffler launches new engine-parts operation in China

German supplier Schaeffler Group has launched an operation to manufacture engine parts at its factory complex in the east China city of Nanjing.

The 30,000-square-meter (322,917-square-foot) operation will produce camshaft components, tappets, chains, tensioners and other parts. It will house 1,000 employees.

Schaeffler will supply the parts to Chinese and international automakers.

The company also opened a warehouse in Nanjing, and it plans to build two more production operations on the complex.

In addition to the Nanjing manufacturing complex, Schaeffler operates complexes in Taicang and Yinchuan. The company produces most of its automotive products in Taicang.

Schaeffler makes engine, transmission and chassis components as well as bearings. Last year, the company generated sales of 13.2 billion euros.

Schaeffler has 85,000 employees in 170 locations in more than 50 countries.
