Gasgoo.com (Shanghai December 30) - Beginning in 2012, the S5 Shanghai-Jiading Expressway will stop collecting tolls, the Shanghai Urban Construction and Communications Commission told Xinhua today. Tolls on the city's other expressways will be decreased by half, the SUCCC added.

According to the SUCCC announcement, the tolls are being decreased in order to aid development of the city's transportation infrastructure. By getting rid of tolls on the Shanghai-Jiading Expressway, Shanghai hopes to ease transportation costs for residents living in the city's Jiading district and nearby city of Taicang.

The over-18 km S5 Shanghai-Jiading Expressway opened on December 21, 1984. The expressway opened service to passenger vehicles on October 31, 1988.
