Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 5) - Shanghai GM's sales volume has grown as astounding 27.5 percent last month, China Business News reported today. The joint venture sold 104,472 vehicles in the country in June and 612,072 vehicles since the start of the year, breaking previous records, as well as making good progress on its yearly target of 1.15 million sales. 12,067 of the vehicles were sold overseas.
It is noteworthy to remember that the domestic market has been contracting in the country since February, with the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers predicting the market to worsen in the months to come.
Shanghai GM's only real competitor is Shanghai VW, with the two JVs selling 507,600 and 476,828 vehicles in May, respectively. Shanghai VW will need to have sold 135,244 vehicles to catch up with Shanghai GM in overall sales this year.
