Shanghai, June 9 (Gasgoo.com) China's quality regulator said today that Shanghai GM is recalling 4,199 imported Cadillac vehicles to remove their faulty windshield wiper fluid systems that could lead to fires, Xinhua News reported.

The recall covers 1,032 Escalade vehicles made from 2007 to 2009, and 3,167 CTS models made in 2008 and 2009, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) in a statement on its official website.

A defect in a heated windshield wiper fluid system could cause fires in extreme cases, and Shanghai GM had promised to disable the heated washer fluid system, said the statement. The washer allows vehicles to better eliminate ice and snow on windshields.

The recall for repair started today. Owner of affected vehicles in mainland China can contact Shanghai GM on its 800-820-1902 hotline number. GM will pay each customer $100 when the heated fluid module is removed at dealerships.

General Motors yesterday announced a recall of about 1.5 million trucks, crossovers and cars from model years 2006-2009 "because the unit that heats the windshield washer fluid could catch fire," Reuters reported.
