
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 5) - Shanghai GM sold a total of 118,051 vehicles last month, 15 percent more than it sold last August, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The sales figure covers sales of vehicles from the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands. The Buick Regal, Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Malibu combined managed to bring in over 20,000 orders over the course of the month.
The joint venture has sold nearly 900,000 vehicles over the first eight months of the year, making it China's best selling passenger automobile manufacturer.
A total of 57,603 Buicks were sold in August. Monthly sales of the Regal and Lacrosse exceeded 14,000 units. The two cars have managed to accumulate over 600,000 sales since their launches in China. Sales of the Excelle GT and Excelle XT exceeded 15,000 units last month, while 5,460 GL8 minivans were sold. The previous generation Excelle (pictured above) remained one of Shanghai GM's best selling models, with its total sales last month reaching 22,881 units. Over 1.73 million of the last generation Excelle have been sold in China since its launch, making it one of the country's most successful compacts.
Chevrolet sales last month totaled 58,344 units, increasing 32.4 percent from August of the previous year. The brand's August sales result was over three times greater than the previous month's figure. The Malibu (pictured below), which is now available with a brand new turbocharged 1.6 L engine option, performed strongly, with a total of 6,443 units sold. August also marks the thirty-fifth consecutive month that over 10,000 Cruzes have been sold. 24,018 Chevrolet Sails were sold, with the car leading the economic car segment. 7,842 of those were sold overseas, setting a new export record for the Cruze.
Finally, a total of 2,104 Cadillacs were sold last month. Sales of the SRX luxury SUV reached 1,584 units.
