Shanghai GM sells over 133000 vehicles in March

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 3) - Shanghai General Motors sold a total of 133,862 automobiles last month, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 18.4 percent. Shanghai GM reported selling a total of 401,408 vehicles over the first quarter of the year, marking a new record for the joint venture.

Buick sales made up 70,118 of the joint venture's total sales last month. The figure, represented year-on-year growth of 22.8 percent for the brand. Combined March sales of Buick's Yinglang Excelle XT and Yinglang Excelle GT compact totaled 16,653 units, while combined sales of the Regal and Lacrosse totaled 15,392 units. Meanwhile, the first generation Buick Excelle, which is sold under the Kaiyue name, managed to bring in 29,875 orders last month and over 70,000 orders over the first three months of the year.

Sales of Chevrolet models were also notably high, with a total of 60,115 vehicles sold last month, up 13 percent from March 2012. Combined sales of Chevy's two midsizes, the Malibu and the Captiva SUV, totaled 11,540 units over the month and over 33,000 units over the quarter of the year. The two models made up nearly 20 percent of the brand's total sales.

Retail sales of the JV's luxury Cadillac brand reached 3,629 units in March. The figure, which represented year-on-year growth of 32.2 percent, marks a new monthly sales record for the brand. The new XTS' sales exceeded 2,000 units for the month, while sales of the SRX reached 1,532 units.
