Global Times - The Shanghai Transport and Port Authority said Saturday that it will undertake new measures to curb the skyrocketing price of vehicle license plates in the city after a new record was set at the monthly license plate auction.
The average price of the 9,000 sets of plates auctioned off Saturday was 83,571 yuan ($13,396). The authority didn't disclose what measures it might take.
Prices have continued to soar despite measures taken last June, which included ensuring the number of plates available at auction each month and extending how long car owners had to wait before transferring their plates to another vehicle owner.
