Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 27) - Skoda will be building a new compact based on its MissionL concept in China next year, xgo.com.cn reported today. The new car, which will be called the Rapid, will be ranked between the Octavia and the Fabia, officials from the Czech manufacturer confirmed in a statement made on the floor of the ongoing Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

The MissionL currently on display in Beijing (pictured) is reportedly more suited for Chinese tastes than its previous overseas iteration. The Chinese MissionL, which will serve as the foundation for the Rapid, sports a more spacious and comfortable interior. The Rapid will come with 1.4 L and 1.6 engine options, which will be mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed manumatic transmission.
